Compliance Training

After experiencing explosive growth in a very short period, this medical device manufacturer recognized the need to implement a corporate-wide training program designed to assure employee proficiency, product quality, and regulatory compliance. The company set a three-month deadline for go-live in the United States. Approximately 3,500 employees would be trained: 1,300 in the corporate office, 900 in field offices, and 1,300 in three overseas manufacturing plants.

The blended training program included seven on-line, high-volume, basic-skills components and 38 instructor-led courses conducted at 500 classroom sessions. UL EduNeering developed 54 curricula for on-line distribution and scheduled registered and recorded activities for instructor-led courses. Our solution was integrated into the company's new Oracle-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) program for added value and reduced program management costs. Proficiency assessments were enabled through online testing. Additional quality assessments were obtained through surveys completed by each participant and linked to a new critical information control system. Metrics for the completion of courses and adherence to the program schedule were established for program oversight and control.

The program delivered practical results and met the implementation schedule. More than 3,200 standard training courses and 16 customized competency-based training courses were developed, with real-time training links to the company's document management system. Training costs dropped substantially, with a savings of $150,000 for one course alone. Compliance management costs dropped by at least 50%. As a result, the program was introduced to a second division.
