FCPA Signals Urgent Compliance Issues

With more than 100 cases in its pipeline and the record-setting Siemens’ settlement at its back, DOJ is raising the stakes for FCPA violations

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) and US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) remained on the offensive in recent months against companies that violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

The December 2008 settlement with Siemens AG and three of its subsidiaries set a new ceiling on the cost of FCPA violations when the company agreed to pay a combined $800 million to DOJ and SEC, along with €395 million to German authorities.
